Scottie Scheffler - Golfer, U.S.A.

Here is our TOP perFORMer of April 2022

Winning titles and awards since 2019, Scottie Scheffler has consistently performed well throughout his entire professional career. The 25-year-old native New Jerseyman ranked #1 as he entered this year's Masters Tournament and on April 10th, 2022, Scottie Scheffler won the Masters Tournament.

The media was profound in highlighting Scheffler’s eventual victory although the alluring storylines of Tiger Woods and his return to play often overshadowed the event. After the competition, Sheffler spoke with the media about his career achievement and the overwhelming emotions he had moments before the final round.

Scheffler mentioned,“My identity isn’t a golf score. Like Meredith (his wife) told me this morning, if you win this golf tournament, if you lose by ten shots, if you never win another golf tournament again, I’m still going to love you, you’re going to be the same person.”

It’s important to note that sport cultures tend to try coupling an individual’s identity with the sport they participate in. The normalization of this notion can be detrimental to mental health because understanding your various identities and being able to rationalize the differences between them is a huge leap in securing overall well-being. In this way, a balanced life can lead to more enjoyment in sport.

In addition to his hard work and dedication, Scottie Scheffler’s growth mindset has led him to have one of the greatest PGA Tour seasons thus far. He has already started the 2022 PGA Tour season with 4 wins in 6 starts which makes him the 2nd player ever (Arnold Palmer, 1960) to win as many events including the Masters in such a limited time frame.

Top Form is excited to nominate Scottie as our April 2022 TOPperFORMer.
